Are electronic signatures legal?

Updated 10 July 2026

In most countries, a valid electronic signature can carry the same legal effect as a handwritten one. Signet is aligned with the EU eIDAS regulation and the US ESIGN Act and UETA, which recognise electronic signatures.

Enforceability still depends on the specifics: that the signer intended to sign, agreed to do so electronically, and that there's a reliable record of it. Signet captures exactly that: explicit consent, the signer's details, timestamps, and a tamper-evident trail. Some documents (certain wills, deeds or property transfers, for example) have special rules in some places, so check if you're unsure.

This is general information, not legal advice.
